Simon:
I have been an electrician since leaving school and started my own contracting business in 2000. I have had lots of experience in the building industry and recently most of my work has involved projects such as barn renovations. I have helped to co-ordinate several projects including eco-builds and during the last few years I have gained a very good understanding of ecological building and all the potential pitfalls.
Building regulations dictate that you have to install various energy saving fittings so I have to keep up to date with what is about. I always aim to give impartial advice, especially as new technologies such as wind turbines and solar power are expensive. You need to be sure that you get what you need.
Laura:
In the middle of 2007, Simon became very involved with a zero carbon building project. I listened to what he was talking about and thought it was very interesting. We started to think about whether we could run our own business together supplying environmentally friendly building materials and offering advice.
We soon realised that our business needed to be more than that so we decided to open a shop selling a variety of recycled or environmentally friendly products as well as supplying products such as Auro paints, natural insulation and solar hot water systems.
We opened the shop in Harleston, South Norfolk in December 2007. We have listened to what our customers want us to sell and have expanded our range since then.
We are a family business, I am in the shop during the week and Simon is usually in there on Saturdays. Simon’s dad John helps out as well so we can see the occasional football match.
We have built up a database of products and services and if you have the time, we are happy to discuss rain water harvesting, low energy lighting, power saving technology, office supplies, household supplies and much much more.
We think that anything that helps the environment is a benefit to us all and whatever your budget there is something you can do to help make allthingsgreener. |
